Arya Babbar recalls being questioned about Raj Babbar and Smita Patil ‘affair’ as a kid, says, “That was genuine pure love they felt for each other”

Raj Babbar and late actress Smita Patil’s son Prateik Babbar recently married his ladylove Priya Banerjee. However, Prateik’s half siblings Arya Babbar, Juhi Babbar and dad Raj Babbar were missing from the celebrations. In a recent video on his YouTube channel, Arya Babbar recalled the times he was questioned about Raj Babbar and Smita Patil’s affair and showers love on half-brother Prateik Babbar.

Arya Babbar calls Raj Babbar & Smita Patil’s affair ‘pure love’

During his recent stand-up performance, Arya emphasised that Raj and Smita’s relationship wasn’t just an affair. He said, “When I was 6-7 years old, I used to enjoy playing hide and seek but I wasn’t playing hide and seek with my friends, I was playing it with the media. They would pop out of anywhere, throw a microphone in my face and ask me, ‘Your father is having an affair. how do you feel?’”

He added, “But honestly, that wasn’t an affair. That was genuine pure love that Papa and Smita ma felt for each other. As a family, we understood and respected that relationship, and accepted it . But when you are 6-7 years old, you don’t understand all of this. And it was because of this, that my relationship with my father was strained. Because I couldn’t get it. Now that I am 43 and I have been married for 8-9 years, I understand, ‘Baap itna bhi galat nahi tha (My father wasn’t that wrong)’.” Arya shared that the silver lining of that relationship was that he got his “little brother (Prateik) because of that.”

About Raj Babbar’s relationship with Smita Patil

Raj Babbar married Nadira Babbar in 1975, and they had two children, Arya and Juhi. However, while still married to Nadira, Raj fell in love with Smita Patil. The couple divorced in 1982, and Raj married Smita the following year. They had a son, Prateik, in 1986, but tragically, Smita died due to complications during childbirth. After her passing, Raj reconciled with Nadira.
